Indigo Dreams

Photography, Styling, Creative Direction: Shubhi
Location: Hotel Fairmont, Jaipur

Blue is all around. It is in the golden sun-warmed skies, it is speckled across the rolling Aravalis at dusk, and it is concentrated in bands on my crinkled cotton skirt, which I have decided to wear as a dress, in this post.

Cinnamon Girl

Styling, Making, Creative Direction, Photography(Mom helped!) : Shubhi

I'm extremely excited to share this post with you guys, because of the nifty DIY brooches that it sports! I absolutely enjoyed making these glittery felt brooches, and have made tons of them mimicking different quirky things that speak to me!
I plan to pin them on all kinds of clothes, to give them that instant pop uplift!
Anyhoo, outfit details are as follows:
*Denim Jacket-ONLY
*Black stretchy pants- Ginger, I think?
*Shoes (That are undone)- Mochi
*Pop pin-ups, Choker-DIY

Making things gives me immense joy. So does sleeping, sewing, singing, and sipping a quiet cup of tea. And that's just the 's' list.
So here's the battle of my life right now. Making time for these things that give me joy, while turning my head away from numerous kinds of LCD screens that clamor for my attention. I think I'm winning. Putting the phone in another room, face-down, under a large pile of laundry helps.

You should try it too!

PS: Leave me a comment if you like the look. It makes my day!

A Post that Never got Published

Back in April, 2013, I worked on a post that I never published, for some reason.
I look back at it, and it's almost surreal :) Nothing much has changed since then, except that...too much has changed!

I love how it has references to almost everything that's special to me in my life even right now, especially the friends and the places! So, here it goes:

10 Things I did Last Month

1. Spent some time with my pet cat, and my camera.

2. Designed and made this DIY lantern with some steel wire and post-it notes. Mood lighting for my room!

3. Did a photoshoot on the building terracce.

4.Spent some time in our vacation home with family.

5.Welcomed in the bright sunshine. Hola Summer!

6.Excitedly received this parcel from Precious You, I won a giveaway at The Fashion Flite! Everything about it was beautiful, the earrings, the package, and the cute little note!

7. Went for a lunch date in town.

 8. Reminisced about old friends. Dug out old pictures and edited them...I'm an obsessive compulsive photo editor, by the way.

9.Grabbed a coffee at the newly opened Starbucks with a friend. I love the way Starbucks in India has a whole new luxury brand identity, as opposed to the regular-street-corner-cofeeshop look abroad

10. Booked tickets to this place. I'm going next week to attend a dear friend's wedding! So excited, have to get busy planning some Indian traditional outfits soon!

Hope you'll had a lovely week!

For the Love of the 90s

90's Fashion holds a special significance for me. Why you ask? I was born as soon as the Nineties started, for one. I witnessed it all around me, the first fabric I wore or touched was probably seeped deep in it.

But besides all of this, it is also special because I was so completely unaware of it. I did not know about it as I watched my elder sister wearing full-sleeved striped tee shirts, denim dungarees, and large frilly scrunchies, which frankly at that time, seemed odious to me!

I did not know about it as I watched hideously made-up women on television, wearing dark lipstick and lip-liners. (Well into the 2000s, because fashion always arrived late to India, before the wake of the Internet and Blogging and Social Media.)

So there. The 90s were all around, and I was blissfully unaware.

When I actually started understanding fashion and the funny trends-mindset that came along with it, (probably after I laid my hands on my first fashion magazine, and thank god for it- It has made my life and existence more colorful-sometimes in the literal sense too!), I thought the 90s were a terrible era, fashion-wise. I was so taken with the seventies, the forties even-and thanks to the endless reading of British classics-I was quite taken by the 1800s. :) Bows, Bouffants and Pouffy Sleeves- They were just MY THING!

But now in the wake of the 90s Revival, I am thrilled. Because all those pictures in fashion magazines, on Instagram, and everywhere else give me a strange sense of comfort, and familiarity. I want to jump right into it, and it has given me a new purpose in life (beware of overstatements!).

Well, the best part about the 90s is the 'Too cool to care' look that everyone seemed to wear. Have remixed some looks in the safe confines of the 2010s. Consider these as whims of an obsessed mind!

You can expect a more detailed look-breakdown on how-to do the 90s post soon (I'm obsessed), but meanwhile, you can look at the Spice Girls, Britney Spears, SATC  and Clueless for inspiration :)

So what is the good that I'm taking from the good-old 90s?

  1. Thin Chokers
  2. Lace Chokers
  3. ALL Chokers
  4. Colourful Stripes
  5. High-neck tees
  6. High waisted denims
  7. Grungy Denim Jackets
  8. Dresses-over-tops (Always a fan of covering up!)
  9. Half-up, half down hair
  10. Platform Heels

What am I not taking?

  1. Dark Lipliner
  2. Scrunchies
  3. Buffalo Boots

PS: The cover photo is unconsciously influenced by Lana Del Ray's album art. Dreamy much! ^_^

The second look is much more grungy, more devil may care. Also, it sports the black lace choker that Im wearing absolutely EVERYwhere these days.

Hope you like it! Expect to see many more chokers in the near future.

Much Love <3

In Praise of the Kanchan

It was one of those mornings,  after months of ceaseless rain, the sun rose up in full splendour.
The seed-heads on the long grass-stalks blinked, squinting skywards.

The air smelt of the grass and the forest, while bees buzzed around, trying to dodge a profusion of butterflies.

It was during one such  morning, that she went out into her garden, and saw that the Kanchan tree had burst into purple bloom overnight.

She plucked as many as she could, and put them in her hair.

The soft fragrance hung in the air.

A little tribute to one of the many Indian flowers, the Kanchan. (Phanera variegata )
May there be many more sunny days, and trees in bloom, just like there were today.
